CHENGDU GERMAN TOWN

The site is located 25Km South of Chengsu city center, in Wan’an Town of Shuangliu County at the edge of the Lushan mountain range. The site and the surroundings are dominated by simple multi-story buildings and rural land for must part uncultivated.

The 25ha site borders with two main traffic arteries to the West and North which cause a significant noise impact. A secondary road crosses the plot from East to West enhancing the accessibility to the site. The presence of different street characteristics suggests different urban typologies within the site.

As requested by our clients, we embrace the strong thematic approach of the project which aims at a urban development characterized by typically German urban and architectural features. By layering the diversities of a theme, an interesting and thriving area can be created with a highly attractive appeal to residents and visitors alike.

German culture embraces contrasting features and ideas which, once combined as a whole, often defines a strong and recognizable signature. Contrast is a driver for innovation and it has always been an integral part of German culture, often leading to a bold reinterpretation of its historical and cultural heritage.

As reflected in its multi-cultural and progressive society, Germany celebrates and is enriched by its diversity. The diversity within a community is reflected in the diversity of its neighborhood: different urban scale, different buildings proportions, different uses and ultimately different architectural styles, all converge to create and enrich the urban context.

The commercial ‘High Street’ that crosses diagonally the site represents the beating heart of the complex. Boutique retail, F&B, showrooms and entertainment are all functions featured in the shopping street that contribute to activate the mixed-use development. The architecture is characterized by a a blend of modern and traditional elements reminiscent of German architecture reinterpreted in a contemporary key.
