The new roof garden with its state of the art conscientious structural design crowns the new Beiguo west extension and becomes the new distinctive landmark on Shijiazhuang’s main road intersection. Making use of the water element as a symbol for prosperity, most suited in a dry climate such as Shijiazhuang. The water features combined with a dense vegetation of lush tree planting the new nature city evolves in downtown Shijiazhuang.

The master plan shows the layout and relationship of all the gardens and plazas alongside the commercial spaces. The specific paving and walkways allow easy transition from one garden to the next whilst offering the best way to appreciate the space and enjoy the magnificent views.

The upper floor is mainly used for having a stroll, seating or looking down to the pocket gardens. Some furniture are not simply chairs or benches. They’re art objects or playable objects. Studies show that certain plants are better choices for purifying the air as they are easier to maintain, remove airborne toxins and chemicals more effectively and supply plenty
of fresh oxygen. The chosen plants are some of the most efficient air purifying plants.

The Algae Garden is an abstract representation of a key environmental function. This leads to the more natural rain garden where onsite water is purified and detoxified by the water plants and fish. The algae and rain garden provide an important function to purify waste water within the roof garden. Visitors will be able to access and investigate the abstract formation of the algae garden and appreciate the more natural rain garden with rich aquatic planting and diverse fish species.

In order to decrease the solar load on the roof a random pattern was applied to the roof. The shadows of this pattern will mimic the shadows of a forest canopy, creating a natural atmosphere. The pattern consists of 4 different materials; completely transparent, opaque glass, translucent glass, and opaque illuminated with LED lighting.
